The PNG Defence Force Air Element is responsible for air mobility, aerial surveillance, humanitarian response, and supporting land and maritime operations. Although small, it plays a crucial role in disaster relief, border patrol, and national security operations across Papua New Guinea’s vast airspace.
The Air Element works closely with international partners such as Australia, New Zealand, and the United States for pilot training, aircraft capability, and technical support.

Recruitment into the PNGDF Air Element follows the standard PNGDF enlistment pathway. Successful applicants may later be selected for specialist aviation training depending on performance, aptitude, and operational needs.
General requirements:
• Papua New Guinean citizen
• Ages 18–35
• Physically fit with a clean police record
• Grade 12 certificate (higher education preferred for pilots/technicians)
